Move when a specific requirement is unmet, not simply because your store has started making sales. Shopify’s free app remains a reasonable option for straightforward file and link delivery.
Write down the missing workflow
A need for buyer-specific PDF stamping, unique licence inventory, custom fulfilment or a scheduled launch is more useful than a vague desire for a better app. Test whether your current setup can meet that requirement first.
Use the current Shopify product
The official app is now listed as Shopify Digital Products. Its description includes files, links, variants and customer-account access. Older comparisons that claim all of those are absent should not decide your migration.
Make the case for BIG precisely
BIG offers standard, custom and scheduled products, paid-plan PDF stamping and order/key exports. Those features may justify moving. Its paid plans still have storage and transfer limits, so model your volume before upgrading.
Switch without duplicate messages
Run controlled test orders before changing live fulfilment. Check how historical orders are handled, then disable duplicate delivery messages deliberately. Do not leave two apps sending conflicting instructions to every buyer.
Your practical action plan
- Write your acceptance checklist. List every required file type, delivery mode, protection option and integration. Separate must-have capabilities from attractive extras.
- Test your own workload. Use the same product and customer journey across the shortlisted apps. Include your largest realistic file, a mobile download and an existing-order scenario if migrating.
- Price a normal and peak month. Use stored GB, transferred GB, order count and any provider-specific sales caps. Confirm the current billing screen and migration terms before committing.
Before you publish
- The product page matches the actual files, access and timing.
- A sample or preview reflects the product customers receive.
- The purchase, email and mobile access route have been tested.
- Compatibility, licence terms and support contact are easy to find.
- Capacity and costs have been checked against the current plan.
