Give customers access while their purchase is still in front of them. A post-purchase download button complements email delivery and gives buyers another way to retrieve the product.
Start with the right checkout surface
The thank-you page and order-status page are related but distinct. Use the app’s supported Shopify extension or integration for the current checkout experience. Do not paste a public file URL into a generic text block: that can bypass the purchase-based access you intended.
Check the paid-order journey
Create a test order for a product with a real file attached. Confirm that the correct download appears after payment, then reopen the order-status link. A mixed physical and digital cart should clearly identify which item is downloadable and which will ship.
Keep an email recovery route
Some customers close checkout before downloading or complete the order on another device. Keep a branded delivery email and a clear support route. Test the message in more than one inbox and avoid relying on a single browser tab.
Test the edge cases
Verify a bundle, a variant and a custom or scheduled product if you sell them. Scheduled content should not become available early. A custom order should explain when the finished file will arrive rather than displaying a broken or misleading instant-download promise.
Your practical action plan
- Prepare the deliverable. Keep an original backup and publish a clear version. List the formats, compatibility and licence scope before the customer purchases.
- Connect and test in Shopify. Map the file, link or key to the right product and variant. Use the appropriate standard, custom or scheduled delivery mode. Check a controlled purchase on desktop and mobile.
- Choose capacity and monitor it. Use catalogue size and expected monthly transfer to choose a plan. Track actual usage and support questions after launch, especially before a promotion.
Before you publish
- The product page matches the actual files, access and timing.
- A sample or preview reflects the product customers receive.
- The purchase, email and mobile access route have been tested.
- Compatibility, licence terms and support contact are easy to find.
- Capacity and costs have been checked against the current plan.
